The Elrama VFC was first organized in 1932 and was chartered by four members in 1934. They included residents of Elrama, Edward Hays, Oliver Hays, James Mancini, and James Mead. The department's first fire was a yellow brick house by the railroad station. The firefighters were notified by firefighter James Mollen, who is said to have run through the town yelling "Fire! Fire!" In the early years, the department had a 40 member fireman's marching band that was directed by fireman Joe McDevitt. The band commonly preformed as a fundraiser to help start the department. In 1933 many ham dinners were served to raise money for a new fire truck. The department's second truck a 1933 Doge was housed in the departments first two bay garage. A new garage was built in 1949 and currently serves as the bottom of the social hall. In 1951 the top of the garage was added and is the current social hall. In 1962 the fire trucks moved to there current location in a new separate garage next to the hall.
